CAD SPECIFICATION POLICY

CNC Machining & Turning
All CNC machining orders must include a PDF 2D drawing and a 3D CAD file in one of the acceptable file types.
3D CAD data will take precedence over 2D drawings except for tolerance and thread notes.
3D File Types
-
Parasolid (This is our preferred 3D file type)
-
STEP
-
IGES
3D files must not have multiple bodies. This will cause problems for our software and might result in the wrong part being made.
Drawing File Types
-
PDF
Internal Threads
Internal threads must be 3D modeled as the tap drill size. Do not upload 3D CAD with threads modeled at the major diameter.
External Threads
① External threads must be modeled at the major diameter of the thread.
② External threads must be modeled with a 45° chamfer lead-in and lead-out.
③ External threads must include a back side relief for cutter clearance.
Thread Depth
Thread depth must not exceed our capabilities per the chosen CNC milling or turning service.
Thread and Hole Features
Do not model the actual threads. All other hole features must be modeled. Example: Head counterbore, shoulder counterbore, flat-head countersink, or chamfer leads.
Tolerance
If a part requires special tolerances, then the drawing must clearly indicate the toleranced feature with (Min #, Max #), (+/- #), or ISO 286.
-
Except for ISO 286, the 3D CAD must be either the Min, Max, or Nominal (half way between min and max for Symmetrical tolerance).
-
For ISO 286, the 3D CAD must be the Basic Size.
-
Do not 3D model the feature under the Min or over the Max.
-
Tolerance methods outside of three options (ex. asymmetrical tolerance) are not guaranteed. Use at your own risk.
Color, Material, Texture, Finish
Extra processing to machined and turned parts must be selected with the online quote. The drawing should match your selection.
Example: You have indicated on your drawing that you would like Green Anodizing - You must also select Green Anodizing for the online quote.
Surface Roughness - Ra
5-Axis & CNC Turning:
Indicated Ra on your PDF drawing. Better than Ra 3.2um (128 Ra Inch) will be attempted but not guaranteed if indicated on the drawing.
Standard & Advanced CNC:
Except for approval in writing, all surfaces will be "As Machined" regardless of Ra notes on the drawing.
3D Printing & Urethane Casting
We only accept 3D files for 3D Printing.
3D File Types
-
STL
-
OBJ
-
STEP (If you would like us to define the mesh)
-
Parasolid (If you would like us to define the mesh)
3D files must not have multiple bodies. This will cause problems for our software and might result in the wrong part being made.
Maximum File Size
50MB or 1 million polygons
Threads
3D model threads at your own risk.

Special tolerances are not allowed for this service.
Laser Cutting
We only accept 2D DXF files for laser cutting.
File Types
-
